The Story Behind the Mosaic

Welcome ~
Growing up as a first generation immigrant and experiencing displacement and childhood trauma throughout my young life, I have sought therapy for my own healing since I was a teenager. This was a gift in my life and changed the trajectory of my existence. It has not only given me purpose but compassion for those struggling around me. Processing my own trauma and grief shifted my reality outside of this narrative and I was able to experience all of me again. I was free from the shackles of my past. This is a gift that I aspire to share with as many people as possible.
I have pursued an education to better understand trauma, whether it is known or repressed, and how it continues to live in our body and manifest every day in ways that harm and protect us. My friend and I co-founded and created a registered charity organization called Abuse Never Becomes Us (A.N.B.U.) www.anbu.ca and I have served as the president of the organization for 10 years. A.N.B.U. loosely translates to love in the language of my ancestors, Tamil. A.N.B.U. provides support for adult survivors and those impacted by childhood abuse within the Tamil community. This is a mission that is near and dear to my heart and my hope is that every single person that experiences hardship is able to express themselves fully in whichever method that is healing for them, whether that be through words, art or body work.
The trajectory of life fascinates me and I strive to live every day with a full and open heart. I have worked with the elderly for the majority of my career, working with survivors of Genocide, war veterans, those living in long term care facilities, palliative care/hospice centers and those aging at home. I now work as a child protection worker with the Children’s Aid Society. I think about the many voices that are forgotten and neglected on a daily basis and I understand too well the systems that work against folks with racialized and intersectional identities. This pushes me to be a strong advocate for my clients.
I am constantly growing and developing my knowledge and understanding of life with trauma through mindfulness and holistic practices. I am working towards my certification as an EMDR therapist and completed training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Narrative Therapy and have attended seminars and workshops to inform my practice with Internal Family Systems, Emotion Focused Therapy and Mindfulness approaches. My personal and professional journeys have enabled me to believe in living and serving within an anti-oppressive, anti-racist and intersectional approach.
The name Mosaic Mind was inspired by the image of a mosaic. Many unique pieces coming together to create something meaningful and whole. I believe each person carries a unique story shaped by experiences, relationships, culture, strengths, and challenges. My journey in therapy has offered me the opportunity to gently explore these pieces, making sense of difficult experiences while cultivating greater self-awareness, healing, and connection. My hope is to offer this to every client that walks through my door.
